BIRDS, the third feature film by Pau Durà (Formentera Lady) hit theaters on April 5, distributed by Filmax, after screening in the Official Selection at the Malaga Film Festival, where Luis Zahera won the Biznaga de Plata Award for Best Actor.
With independent production and a limited number of copies, the film started in the TOP 10 of the week, climbing to 5ª posición and standing up to American blockbusters and big family titles. In its second week, after being warmly received by audiences, the number of copies was increased at the request of theaters, and a few days later it consolidated its position as the 9th most-watched film of the year in Spain (according to the ICAA report for the first 16 weeks of the year). One month later, more than 80,000 viewers have seen PÁJAROS, and the film continues its run in major theaters throughout Spain.
BIRDS It is a story of running away in search of the past that wanders between comedy and drama in the form of an emotional, trans-European road movie. A film created by Pau Durà himself and starring the multi-award-winning Javier Gutiérrez and Luis Zahera, who became the odd couple on an impromptu trip through Europe.
“Luis Zahera He gives us a brilliant character, full of tenderness, fragility, and emotion. With great subtlety in the drama that the character carries, but also with great subtlety in the comedy and humor that emerges from this journey. Always alongside the equally brilliant Javier Gutiérrez, with whom he forms a pair that, for me, is inseparable on this journey. He defined it as such during the closing ceremony, Pau Durà, the director of BIRDS who accepted the award on behalf of the actor who plays Mario, a tender and helpless character, very different from the roles we are used to seeing him in.
For her part, Zahera, who was unable to attend due to her theater commitments, sent a video thanking the festival for its welcome. The actor gave special thanks to Pau Durà for offering him “this very different character” and dedicated the award to his colleague Javier Gutiérrez, “because without him it would not be possible.”
BIRDS is the story of a journey, that of two strangers. who, now in their 50s, are searching for an unattainable crane and an unpredictable future. A journey in which they will travel through Europe, but also through their own lives, their relationships, family, love, sex... as a catharsis in the face of the inevitable passage of time.
